The Brief
Project Overview
Casawira is a 1,300 m² private residence in Bali defined by layered and sculptural geometry. Woodlam delivered a custom Wynstellar engineered door system using finger-jointed laminated Meranti with walnut finish.
In high humidity conditions, door stability becomes structural risk.
Objective
The objective was to translate complex architectural geometry into a high-precision door system by delivering:
• Millimeter-level alignment across custom door sets
• Engineered core stability beneath walnut veneer
• Controlled moisture calibration prior to installation
• Consistent tonality across extended interior runs
This project elevated door fabrication into a precision structural discipline.

The Constraints
Non-Standard Door Geometry
Each opening required bespoke calibration and alignment.
Tropical Humidity Exposure
Engineered internal stability prevented warping and hardware drift.
Flush Reveal Precision
Shadow gaps and veneer continuity required millimetre accuracy.
Extended Design Coordination
Detail resolution occurred through sustained architect–fabricator collaboration.

The Engineering
Wynstellar Engineered Core Doors
Doors used finger-jointed laminated Meranti cores to stabilize structure and reduce internal movement.
Walnut Veneer Sequencing
Walnut finish was applied over engineered cores. Veneer layout was controlled to maintain tonal cohesion across large interior runs.
Precision Machining Discipline
Door leaves and frames were machined to tight tolerances to maintain consistent reveal gaps and hardware alignment.
Humidity Conditioning Protocol
All components were moisture-calibrated prior to installation to reduce post-installation distortion in Bali’s climate.
The Products and Materials
The Results and Insights
Millimetre Alignment Achieved
Complex openings were resolved without visible distortion or uneven reveal conditions.
Dimensional Stability Validated
The engineered core system maintained alignment despite humidity fluctuation.
Geometry Translated into Rhythm
The doors reinforced the architectural flow, turning technical precision into spatial calm.
Collaboration as Structural Discipline
The project strengthened Woodlam’s ability to manage long coordination cycles without compromising fabrication clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions
Got a question unanswered? Speak to our team.
What is Wynstellar in this project?
Wynstellar is Woodlam’s engineered door system using stabilised internal cores rather than solid timber. In Casawira, it enabled custom door fabrication with improved flatness and dimensional reliability.
Why not use solid timber doors in Bali?
Solid timber is more vulnerable to warping and expansion under humidity fluctuation. Engineered laminated cores distribute internal stress more evenly, improving long-term stability.
How is millimetre precision maintained across complex geometry?
Through digital measurement, calibrated machining, and controlled sequencing between fabrication and installation. Alignment is resolved before production, not corrected on site.
Why is this project strategically important for Woodlam?
Casawira demonstrates Woodlam’s capacity to translate architectural complexity into engineered interior systems. It reinforces expertise in high-precision residential detailing within tropical climates.
