About Woodlam
Woodlam Indonesia is an engineering-led timber company developing structural, architectural, and prefabricated timber systems for construction in tropical or remote sites.
Woodlam provides engineered timber solutions for architects, developers, and asset owners building in Southeast Asia and APAC.
We specialize in designing, engineering, and delivering timber systems that remain dimensionally stable, structurally reliable, and buildable in high-humidity, high-UV, and coastal environments.
Our role is simple: reduce your material risk from concept to completion.
The problem timber faces in the tropics
In Indonesia and other tropical climates, timber does not fail because it is weak. It fails because it is misunderstood and detailed incorrectly.
Most timber issues originate from decisions made long before installation:

-
Moisture content not aligned to local EMC
-
Adhesives not formulated for persistent humidity and UV exposure
-
Joinery that restrains movement instead of accommodating it
-
Species selected for availability rather than performance
-
“Grade” classifications without unified or verified standards
-
Use of untreated timber in high-humidity environments
-
Incorrect detailing of water flow and drainage
-
Lack of Maintenance & Inspection programs
-
Design Misapplication (Insufficient roof overhangs, no sacrificial detailing philosophy, over-reliance on coatings instead of passive protection – drainage, geometry, and detailing)
The result is predictable: material warping, joint failure, delamination, mould and fungal attack, termite damage, decay, project delays, rework, and ultimately, loss of confidence in timber as a serious structural material.
Woodlam exists to remove that uncertainty.

Why engineered timber, not solid wood
Stability is designed, not assumed
Engineered timber is manufactured under controlled conditions. Individual lamella’s are graded, vacuum treated, kiln-dried, the defects are redistributed, grain is balanced, and assemblies are calibrated for predictable behaviour.
This matters in the tropics.
In Southeast Asia, equilibrium moisture content typically sits between 14–20%. Solid timber installed without control continues to move after installation. Engineered timber, when correctly specified, moves less, stays straighter, and installs cleaner.
This translates into:
- Fewer dimensional surprises on site
- Faster installation with pre-cut, labelled components
- More reliable finishes across large interior and exterior surfaces
Built for humidity, not seasons
In four-season climates, timber expands and contracts repeatedly. In Indonesia, the temperature is relatively stable, but humidity is persistent.
- Engineered assemblies manage this condition better than solid wood by:
- Balancing movement across the grain
- Reducing internal stress through lamination
- Allowing predictable drainage and drying path
When species selection, treatment, detailing, and engineering work together, engineered timber can outperform conventional materials in tropical conditions, or at minimum match them with far lower environmental cost.
At Woodlam, proof replaces assumption
Woodlam did not begin by opening a factory. We began by studying material behaviour.
Our research examined:
• Timber movement and response to mould at 70–95% relative humidity
• Adhesive performance under moisture and UV exposure
• Structural behaviour of tropical species under load
• Best Practices of design and installation techniques suitable for the tropics
This work showed that engineered timber calibrated for tropical climates can deliver approximately 60–80 percent better dimensional stability than comparable solid timber applications.
Where relevant, our systems are tested to international benchmarks such as EN 14080, JAS, and GLTAA, with full traceability from factory to site.

Specialization
Engineered Timber
Precision-engineered timber designed for structural performance and architectural clarity in tropical conditions. From span optimization to joinery logic, we deliver factory-ready components that install cleanly and perform reliably.
Tropical Climate
Engineered for South-East Asia's humidity, rainfall, and heat. Our systems account for moisture cycling, dimensional movement, and biological durability, ensuring long-term stability where conventional timber fails.
Integrated Solution
Design, engineering, fabrication, and installation unified under one workflow. This seamless integration reduces risk, accelerates timelines, and ensures every component arrives ready to perform.
The bridge between concept and reality
A compelling render does not guarantee a durable building. The difference is technical clarity.
Woodlam focuses on the decisions that determine whether a project still performs decades later:
• Drainage after heavy rain
• Joint detailing that allows movement
• Moisture control from factory to site
• Species suitability for different exposure conditions
By resolving these early, we protect both design ambition and execution certainty.
Ultimately, we build with precision,
so our clients can build with certainty.

The team behind Woodlam
Woodlam is led by founder Jeshua Sadeli and a multidisciplinary team trained through Woodlam Academy.
Founder & Managing Director
Jeshua Sadeli
Jeshua Sadeli grew up in Indonesia’s timber world from a young age, spending his childhood inside his father’s factory and later living in a full-timber house in Rancamaya where he learned firsthand how wood behaves, ages, and protects a home.
Years later in Melbourne, he encountered Australia’s first mass-timber public building at Docklands Library, which sparked a deeper curiosity about why Indonesia’s tropical climate was being underserved by global timber standards.
This led him to attend international timber conferences, visit more than fifty factories across Europe, Australia, Japan, and the United States, and study how engineered timber performs under real tropical stress conditions. His research became the foundation of Woodlam’s philosophy: engineer timber deliberately for the tropics, validate every detail, and rebuild Indonesia’s confidence in the material that shaped its architectural heritage.
